Businesses and residents in the Sharpsburg borough are supporting and contributing to the goal of obtaining a K9 officer for the police department. Chief Thomas Stelitano and Officer Jeffery Hussar have been fundraising for the training and purchase costs associated with a K-9 unit. Local businesses, such as Ferra’s Automotive Services and Fazio Mechanical Services have supported the fundraising efforts, as well as residents, through monetary donations or purchasing a T-shirt in a recent sale. The Pittsburgh Foundation has also contributed to the fund. The goal is to capitalize on a K-9 officer for emergencies and to improve security borough-wide. Officer Hussar will be the handler.
