Sharpsburg Guyasuta Committee, Inc.

For the past eleven years, the Sharpsburg Guyasuta Committee has met and planned several activities throughout the year to benefit the community of Sharpsburg through improving the resources of the community, assisting residents in times of disaster and by providing financial support for educational opportunities.

In the past, the committee has sponsored a week-long community festival, Guyasuta Days, for the residents of Sharpsburg. This festival provides businesses and non-profit organizations with the opportunity to raise money by sponsoring a food or game booth for the week. The committee plans week-long events for the Festival, including: carnival rides, nightly entertainment, free corn and watermelon, a full day of free activities, games and prizes for children. The Festival ends with a parade and spectacular fireworks display. The event this year will be held Monday, August 4 through Saturday, August 9, 2008.

The committee meets monthly, except in December and August, to plan the festival and also to evaluate requests for financial assistance from various organizations.

The Sharpsburg Guyasuta Committee is currently planning the 11th annual Festival, which honors the Native American Chief, Guyasuta, who lived in the Sharpsburg area during the early days of America. The committee plans to continue its efforts in providing a week long festival to remember and celebrate the proud heritage of our community as well as persist in our work of providing financial assistance to meet the educational, social and service needs of the community of Sharpsburg.
