The Sharpsburg Police Department is located at the Borough building at 1611 Main Street. Four full-time and four part-time Sharpsburg Police officers proudly serve and protect the community. Leo J. Rudzki, Jr. is the current Police Chief in Sharpsburg.

Information about 911 and You!

911 is only to be used in emergency situations. An emergency is any situation that requires immediate assistance for poilce, fire, or EMS response. If you are not sure of whether a situation is an emergency or not, be safe and dial 9-1-1 and let the call taker determine if you need emergency assistance. You call will be handled whether it is an emergency or not.

Examples of when to call 9-1-1:

  • Any medical emergency such as heart attack, stroke, unknown medical problem, broken bones, lacerations, etc.
  • House or building fire
  • Domestic violence incidents
  • Burglary or theft in progress
  • Car crashes
  • Suspicious activities
  • Anything else that seems like an emergency!

Do NOT call 911:

  • For information
  • When the power is out
  • For paying tickets
  • For your pet
  • As a prank

For non-emergencies, please call the non-emergency number at the Sharpsburg Police Department: 412-486-3201. You may also come to the Borough building and push the doorbell button outside of the building to see if a police officer is available to assist you.

Cell Phone Tips When Calling 9-1-1:

  • Always know your location and be ready to give directions to the 9-1-1 call taker using cross streets, landmarks, borough, city and county names.
  • Always know your cell phone number in case the call taker needs to call you back.
  • Tell the call taker what the emergency is.
  • If your call is disconnected, dial 9-1-1 again and let them know you were disconnected.

Sharpsburg Neighborhood Crime Watch

The Neighborhood Crime Watch is taking back the Sharpsburg community! Join the monthly Crime Watch meeting on the last thursday of every month at the Sharpsburg Borough Building in Council Chambers. The 2010 Meeting Dates are as follows: February 25, March 25 and April 29 . Dates may change due to the holidays. All meetings will take place at 7:30pm in the evening. Refreshments are served in the lobby.

Ordinances: Curfew

Below you will find a summary of this ordinance. For a full copy contact the Sharpsburg Borough Office.

Summary:

  • It is unlawful for any minor (under 18 years of age) to be on public roads or property when not accompanied by a legal guardian between the hours of 10:00 p.m. EST or 11:00 p.m. DST and 6 a.m. the following day
  • Upon violation the minor will be taken into custody by Borough Police and will be remanded to the district justice for enforcement action.
  • It is unlawful for any legal guardian to allow a minor to violate this ordinance.
  • The penalty for violating this ordinance is a fine payable to not more than $1,000 plus costs. A term of 30 days will occur if payment is defaulted on. Current fine is $400.
