The Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department is located next to the Borough Building, 1611 Main Street. Although its organization and structure have changed throughout the years, fire service in Sharpsburg has been around since 1871. When the Pennsylvania Railroad ran through the middle of the town in the early and middle 20th century, there had to be two fire companies, one on each side of the tracks. In 1974, the Fire Department purchased the property where the Fire Station is currently located (next to the Borough Building) and became incorporated as a non-profit organization the next year.
In 1993 the borough’s Administrative Offices and Police Department moved into the luxurious Fire Departments Banquet Hall. Council Chambers is located in the area where the stage and dance floor once existed. Now the existing locker room and holding cell at the police station are where the banquet hall kitchen was. We have been told that many lovely weddings were held here!
Today, the Fire Department is operated by a group of dedicated, hard-working volunteer firefighters. The Fire Chief is elected by those within the Fire Department who proudly serve the residents of Sharpsburg.

Services offered by Parkview EMS:
-
Parkview is always available to do “legal” blood draws when Sharpsburg Officers have a DUI incident. Because of our availability, officers do not have to spend time at the hospital waiting for someone to do a blood draw – they can remain in service for the community.
-
For those with children and grandchildren - our service holds pediatric recognition at the Expert Level. We have dedicated equipment for pediatric patients.
-
Two car seat technicians are on staff to help parents in the community install their car seats properly. Please feel free to call our station to make an appointment at (412) 449-1080!
-
We’ve instituted a car seat loaner program for parents who need safe car seats and who cannot afford them. Those seats are also available to the police should they need to transport a minor.
-
We are trained in basic K9 care should an incident happen that involves our K-9 Jango.
-
Our squad contains equipment such as mister fans, tents and water for firefighter rehab at a structure fire or at an extended call that happens in extreme weather.
-
Our staff is trained at the operational level of water rescue and several are trained at the technician level. We are also affiliated with the Blawnox Swift Water and River Rescue Teams. Many times, those calls end up staged in Sharpsburg at James Sharp Landing.
